Goodbye, Brew Works on the Green. Hello, Noti's Clubhouse Tavern.
The newest tenants at Allentown's Municipal Golf Course restaurant are putting the finishing touches on renovations and plan to open around March 1, course manager Jeff Wambold said last week.
The restaurant, formerly Brew Works on the Green, has been closed since early this year when the previous contract on the space expired. Although a one-year option remained on Brew Works five-year deal for the restaurant, city officials opted last year to rebid the contract with a $10,000 annual increase in rent and new terms that allowed outside caterers to be used at the golf course.
Brothers Jim and Anthony Noti made the only bid on the contract, and were awarded the deal in December. Jeff Fegley, co-owner of Brew Works, said at the time that his family declined to bid on the contract because the terms were detrimental to business.
The Notis, who own heavy metal bar Jimmy's Place on Airport Road, said in December that they planned to cater to the golfers that frequent the restaurant, rather than the motorcyclists that favor Jimmy's Place. A 23-foot extension is planned for the restaurant's bar, and the beer selection will return to mostly domestic brews, Jim Noti said at the time.
The Notis' menu will include pub fare with a variety of chicken, steak and club sandwiches as well as wings and salads. A $10 buffet will be offered on tournament days, Jim Noti has said. He could not be reached this week for additional comment.
Painting at the restaurant has been completed, and the bar extension will be built shortly, Wambold said. All of the necessary equipment has been purchased, and the Notis plan to do a trial of the restaurant's new menu in the next week or two, Wambold said.
And, of course, the restaurant has a new name: Noti's Clubhouse Tavern, he said.
"They're doing very well, " Wambold said. "We're excited to see when he opens."
A liquor license transfer needed to run the restaurant's bar is still pending, Wambold said. Jim Noti said in December that he planned to transfer the license from Jimmy's Place to the new restaurant, but as of Monday, Jimmy's Place remained open for business. According to the state Liquor Control Board's website, the Notis' license for Jimmy's Place is still active.
Later this year, Jimmy's Place will close and move to a new location in east Allentown to make way for a Taco Bell franchise on the bar's 1122 Airport Road property. The city's planning commission approved plans for the Taco Bell last week, and officials expect to have it built as early as August.
The new Taco Bell will replace a Taco Bell in the 700 block of Union Boulevard that closed in December.
