The Share Button - Online Business Article Directory

?

A common new feature on many content websites today is to integrate social networking functionality directly onto the web page which gives readers and commenters the opportunity to share what they are reading directly on their own social network page such as their Twitter or Facebook feed. But how important is it really for your website to have social networking functionality, and does this type of functionality have any impact on the success and income of your website? The answer is that it depends on the type of website you are operating, and giving your readers the opportunity to share you content in their social networking accounts may not have the impact that you are hoping for.

If you are using a blogging software then it is not difficult to integrate the social networking share buttons onto your website, as there are free plugins that give your readers the opportunity to share your content across any of the major social sites. The question is, are people actually going to use this feature? For most people the answer is no, because no matter how good your content is or how compelling your writing is, most people use their social networking accounts for personal purposes such as communicating with friends and family members and not for sharing articles.

In theory it makes sense to add the share button to your own website even if it is a personal blog, but in reality it can have little to no impact other than taking up space on your page. The share button becomes a more significant consideration when you are dealing with a large news website with hundreds of contributors, but unless your website has a great deal of prestige and name brand recognition then your readers will not perceive you as a trustworthy source of information that they would feel comfortable sharing with their closest friends.

There is another way for smaller websites to take advantage of social networking without using the share button, and that is to create a Facebook group that is centered around your website and then add the Facebook widget to your web page. This is similar to the share button but not exactly the same, and this feature is much better suited for the average website owner since average people will not be willing to share your content with their personal network of friends. If you are interested in adding social network functionality to your website, a Facebook group widget can be a more practical alternative to the typical share button since there is a greater probability that your readers will interact with it.
